Stretching Makes Perfect
Stretching can be very beneficial. It makes for a much better cheerleader. There is a large list of stretching benefits. People have shown great results in everything through stretching, most importantly jumps.
“I like to stretch because it will make my jumps better and here is always something I can achieve,” said freshman cheerleader Caitie Lawrence. To a cheerleader, jumps have been very important, and if stretching is done, they can always improve. Cheerleading jumps are something cheerleaders have always done. The better the jumps, the better everything has looked. Simple stretching on a regular basis has greatly improved jumps and makes them much easier. The best stretches for this has been are straddles and middle splits.
Not only does stretching help jumps, cheerleaders have accomplish stretches like heel stretches, scorpions, back bends, and most commonly splits. These are great especially to a flyer because many of them can be done in the air. Some of these have taken a lot of time and dedication. Stretching between once and twice a day for a few weeks has been a great start for most cheerleaders. This will help with splits and heel stretches. Some, like scorpions will take a little more time. The best stretches to do for these are straddles, all of your splits, and just standing in the shape of a heel stretch and
scorpion.
"Stretching every night helped me achieve my scorpion," said freshman cheerleader Erin Fitzgerald. Once some stretches are achieved, continue stretching. It should always be done, even if it is just once a week. Just because a split can be done, doesn’t mean it can be done forever. It is quick and easy to stretch a little right before going to bed every night. Some people have liked to stretch in the morning to start the day.
“Stretching is important to me because it warms up muscle, helps improve my toe touches, and makes everything safer,” said freshman cheerleader Madi Start. Without stretching the chances of pulling a muscle have been increase. Stretch at the beginning of a practice or game. Without stretching, injuries have occurred. The most common injury is a pulled muscle. By stretching before working out, the muscles are being pulled out enough so that they have room to stretch during the practice.
“Always stretching really improved my jumps and splits,” said freshman cheerleader Gwen Caven. Anyone can always become more flexible. Improving has been fun and exciting. Hitting a new stretch is a great feeling. Stretches get closer and closer until you finally hit a split, scorpion, or heel stretch. It has felt great to be flexible, like anything can be done.
